We are so excited – not to mention relieved! – to welcome you all to the brand-new DMCC website. This project has been in the works for quite a long time, and we hope that you will think we did a good job in remodeling our internet home.
So why did DMCC need a new website?
o DMCC has grown so much since the last time the site got a makeover in 2017. The layout of the site was established before we uploaded many program videos, before people used webforms to register for our activities, and before we started collecting the extensive volunteer involvement data we currently collect. Those changes, among others, have led us to more than double community participation in every way we measure it. The new layout is very reflective of the way people use our website, and we hope it will make it much easier to discover whatever information you hope to learn when you visit.
o As an organization, we serve the older adult population, and we wanted to introduce accessibility measures that better support you. You’ll now find an accessibility menu in the lower left corner of the screen that will allow community members with all kinds of vision impairment to navigate through our website, by changing text size, contrast, highlighting links, and more.
o There was a lot of information missing from the old site! If you explore a bit, you’ll find pages dedicated to things like our medical equipment lending library, tributes to community members who have passed, community business referrals, and even this blog (so that we have a place to put the stuff that doesn’t go anywhere else!) None of that was on the old site, and it’s long past time to make that sort of information available to you.
…Plus sometimes you need a haircut and some new clothes because it’s just time, you know?
Thank you to the DMCC PR Committee and the DMCC Board of Directors for their guidance and careful beta testing. Thank you also to the wonderful designer we hired, Melissa Chalmers of Four Blocks Consulting, who patiently ensured that the process and the resulting product was as professional as possible.
But! If you’re the analog type and the new website, as spectacular as it is, doesn’t do it for you, our small staff still answers the phone and that isn’t going to change! Call us at (858) 792-7565 during business hours, and we’ll be very happy to assist you with your inquiry.
With Gratitude,
Ashley
