Del Mar Community Connections is proud to offer a variety of programs and services that are key to the well-being of older adults in Del Mar and their caregivers. The following is a listing of nonprofit and government resources that partner with DMCC or provide services that we are unable to provide. Information and services described on this page are subject to change.

Support Groups
Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group: A facilitated support group Del Mar Community Connections hosts in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties. It helps dementia caregivers to build a support system, exchange practical information, and share concerns in a nonjudgmental environment.
Grief and Loss Sharing Group: A supportive, healing space for individuals coping with the pain of loss. Those mourning the loss of a loved one can join others from Del Mar Community Connections and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church twice monthly to gain understanding, comfort, and coping strategies. We offer a compassionate environment where participants can share their feelings, listen to others, and begin to process their grief. This group is open and welcome to all belief systems.

Resources for Family Caregivers

The Caregiver Coalition of San Diego represents the community efforts of a diverse group of agencies, private, public, professional, non-profit, and for profit that serve families caring for their loved ones. Their collective mission is one of support, education, and advocacy. They publish a regularly updated Caregiver Handbook, available online or to be mailed to you for free, in multiple languages.

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP): (858) 565-1392
Operated by Elder Law & Advocacy, Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) offers counseling regarding Medicare, Medigap supplemental policies, Part D drug plans, Medicare Advantage plans, long-term care insurance, and billing problems.

Meals on Wheels: (619) 260-6110
Meals on Wheels San Diego County delivers meals for seven days per week, including all holidays. Their network of caring volunteers not only deliver nutritious meals, but provide daily wellness checks and vital human connection to clients. Contact them to get meals for yourself, your caregiver, and your pets.

The San Diego Union-Tribune regularly updates this extensive directory of local aging services. The listing includes for-profit, nonprofit, and government resources and is organized by category; DMCC cannot verify or endorse the information provided. If you’d like a complimentary print copy of the latest edition, you can visit the DMCC office (225 9th St.) during business hours to pick it up.

Southern Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC):

Southern Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC) is the leading provider of free caregiver support services for families caring for frail older adults and adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders in San Diego County. Serving over 100,000 families annually, SCRC offers a wide variety of support services that include education, care planning, case management, counseling, respite care and support groups.

The Alzheimer’s Association San Diego Chapter provides support services, care options and education for families and caregivers in San Diego. The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Braille Institute: (858) 452-1111
The Braille Institute is a non-profit with a center in San Diego that has been positively transforming the lives of individuals with blindness and low vision for over 100 years. They offer a range of free programs, classes, and services to thousands of children and adults of all ages and all stages of vision loss.

County of San Diego Aging and Independence Services: (800) 339-4661
Aging & Independence Services (AIS), part of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, provides programs and services to help older adults and persons living with disabilities to stay safe, healthy, engaged, and as independent as possible. The AIS Call Center is the gateway to information and assistance about AIS programs, as well as other community services for older adults, those living with disabilities, caregivers, and family members. Call Center Specialists also take reports of suspected elder and dependent adult abuse.

The City of Del Mar is a municipal government serving a quaint seaside village of approximately 4,200 people. DMCC is proud to be the official Senior Services provider of the City of Del Mar.

Del Mar Foundation: (858) 635-1363
The mission of the Del Mar Foundation is to promote civic pride and cohesiveness, acquire and preserve open space, improve beaches and parklands, raise and grant funds, and sponsor diverse cultural programs and community events in Del Mar. DMCC is proud to partner with Del Mar Foundation in providing multiple grant-funded programs. The Del Mar Foundation additionally provides DMCC with its headquarters, the Del Mar Community Building.

The Del Mar Historical Society is an independent 501(c)(3) founded in 1985, striving to fulfill its long-time mission to discover, record, collect, preserve, perpetuate, and display for public benefit the historical facts, artifacts, properties, and other material concerning the history of the village of Del Mar. DMCC welcomes the Del Mar Historical Society once a month as they present the Remarkable Del Mar History [link to that page] monthly lecture series.

San Diego Seniors Community Foundation: (619) 684-9114

San Diego Seniors Community Foundation (SDSCF) is the nation’s first community foundation dedicated to serving seniors. Operating across San Diego County, SDSCF supports aging-related infrastructure and advocates for a robust network of trusted senior centers in every neighborhood. Focused on advancing physical wellness, mental well-being, financial security, and social connection, SDSCF provides vital resources to organizations improving seniors' lives.

​Del Mar Community Connections (DMCC) has received grant funding from SDSCF for various programs and participates in the San Diego Senior Center Coalition, a regional network convened by SDSCF to foster collaboration and share best practices among senior centers.

San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy:

The San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy preserves, protects, and shares the natural and cultural resources of the San Dieguito River Valley through collaborative efforts to acquire lands, complete trails, restore habitats, establish educational programs, create interpretive centers, encourage recreation, and mobilize public support. DMCC is grateful to benefit from the expertise of SDRVC in organizing our monthly Trailblazers trail-walking activity along the San Dieguito Lagoon.

Solana Beach Community Connections is a volunteer-driven, 501(c)(3) nonprofit group to assist seniors who seek support to age in place in Solana Beach.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Seniors Ministry: (858) 755-1616
Headquartered in the only church in Del Mar, Seniors Ministry provides activities, resources, and pastoral care for mature adults. Special excursions, social gatherings, and informative seminars focus on the physical, emotional, and spiritual well being of seniors. DMCC partners with St. Peter’s Seniors Ministry to provide the Grief and Loss Sharing Group, which meets each month on the first and third Friday morning.
